  • Noah:

Russell Crowe is a different kind  of Noah  from the one we have been used to in the many stories of the man and his Ark.  This Noah is a much tougher guy than we ever would have thought, and he’s much more difficult than anyone could have guessed.  The movie has several action elements that didn’t make it into the book, including one of the “bad guys” stowing away on the Ark and once in full float in the height of the storm, threatens the mission completely.  Jennifer Connolly is the long-suffering Mrs. Noah.  The movie was banned in Egypt and other similar countries because its depiction is inconsistent with the teachings of Islam.  It has definitely received the Hollywood treatment! Rated 14A.

  • The Other Woman:

Cameron Diaz is Carly.  She has a boyfriend named Mark (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau).  Carly learns that Mark is married, contrary to all appearances.  When Carly gets together with Kate (Leslie Mann), Mark’s wife, the infidelity is discussed … and then both women learn that there is yet another woman named Amber (Kate Upton) who is also seeing Mark.  None  of the women knew about the triple relationship initially, but they know now, and revenge is afoot.  All three ladies team up to get even with the philandering husband. Rated 18A.

  • Lullaby:

Warning – if you don’t want a depressing, death-oriented, dysfunctional family story hanging around your  neck, this might not be for you, despite the fact that there are some very strong performances, and an acutely important message.  Richard Jenkins is Robert, a very wealthy businessman, husband, and father, who is in the last throes of his battle with lung cancer.  A son, long-estranged from the family, learns that his father has 36 hours to live, he returns to say his goodbyes, and sets of a series of explosive issues with the other family members, all of which have their own feelings.  Jennifer Hudson plays against type as a cursing, swearing, nurse, and Anne Archer is excellent as the mom.  Rated 18A.

  • The Cabin in the Woods (2011):

A very interesting twist on the time-honoured horror-slasher tale of a group of young people who encounter a cabin in the woods that has a connection to the world of zombie killers.  That’s not all that happens here … there is a twist that I won’t reveal here that takes this horror-thriller to an entirely different level.  Chris Hemsworth and Richard Jenkins star.  Be prepared to be shocked and amazed!  Rated 18A.

    100 Degrees Below Zero  (2013):

An American couple in Europe are on the run, trying to get their kids and themselves out of Paris before an ice age sets in, the result of a series of volcanic eruptions on the continent that have blotted out the sun and sent everything into a deep freeze.  Jeff Fahey and Sara Lane star.  Rated 14A.

EASY RIDER (1969):

The late Dennis Hopper co-wrote (along with Peter Fonda) and starred in what is surely the classic road picture as two guys hit the roads of American on their choppers.  Watch for a supporting role by music producer Phil Spector.
