1. 2 GUNS:
This is a terrific caper movie with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg each involved with organized crime … and each turns out to be, unbeknownst to the other, an undercover cop of one sort or another. Washington is Bobby Trench, a DEA officer, while Wahlberg is Stig Stigman from Naval Intelligence. The plan a bank heist as part of their keeping-it-real activities to save their undercover status, still unaware of one another’s true identity. Lots of action here, great dialogue and good character development. An action movie with a sense of humour too! Rated 18A.

2. PARANOIA:
Everything has a price, so learns ambitious tech-guru Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) when he is given an opportunity to fast-track to the top in a high-profile communications firm. Two billionaires on opposite sides of the fence (Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford) are bitter rivals looking for the next big product to give them and edge when Cassidy is dealt into the mix with his big promotion … all he has to do is spy on the firm and report back to his old boss … a life-threatening occupation. Excellent performances all round, and it makes one think of Apple and Microsoft. Rated 14A.

3. WE’RE THE MILLERS:
Still playing in some theatres, this raunchy comedy that stars Jennifer Aniston as a stripper who falls in with an ordinary looking family, who are really unrelated and all involved in the drug trade, has made a bundle at the box office. David Clark (Jason Sudeikis) is in a little trouble with the mob … and what can get him off the hook is delivering an RV full of dope across the border, so he recruits a “family” to populate the RV in order to fly under the radar at customs. R-rated for all the right reasons, most audience members found this pretty funny stuff! Rated 18A.

TANGO & CASH (1989):
I was reminded of this movie because of 2 Guns … two cops (Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell) end up in jail along with a lot of folks they helped convict. Good film, underrated at the time.

THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY:
More than a rom-com, less than a drama, this follow up to The Best Man (1999) features a largely African-American cast that works most of the time, but not all.
