  • INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 2

Picks up where the 2011 original left off … just two days later.

  • THE FAMILY

Robert DeNiro in a crime-boss movie about the relocation of a mob family to Europe.

  • 1. STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS:

Most of the cast from the last Star Trek film is back, including Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Simon Pegg as Scotty, and Karl Urban as Bones. The story opens with Kirk violating one of the prime directives, which is to never interfere in the doings of other civilizations … and quickly takes us back home where an enemy from within, and in fact a long-known nemesis of Kirk destroys much of the Federation’s fleet leaving the Enterprise to start an extended chase through space. Nice respect shown to the source material, and lots of action for those who don’t care about the original series. Rated 14A.

  • 2. LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED:

A Danish-made film set in Italy with a Welsh leading man (Pierce Brosnan) is truly an international story of love, loss, and heartbreak. When Ida (Danish actress Trine Dyrholm), hairless and weak after her last chemo treatment, walks in on her husband in a compromising position with a co-worker, life could not be worse. She walks out, travels solo to her daughter’s wedding in Italy, and meets Philip (Brosnan), the father of the groom – and things start badly … meaning that they will likely wind up together by the last frames. Rated 14A.

  • 3. PEEPLES:

It’s your standard fish-out-of-water rom-com with a largely African-American cast headed up by Craig Robinson who, as Wade Walker, crashes his girlfriend’s family reunion in The Hamptons where he wants to ask for her hand. The problem: she’s far higher on the social food chain than he, and the social graces that he lacks become terribly apparent as the disastrous weekend rolls on. Kerry Washington and Diahann Carol also star. Rated 14A.

  • STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS:

Watch for the Transporter office who, in a cameo role, pulls the levers on the Engineering Deck. That’s Christopher Doohan, son of James Doohan who played the original Scotty.

STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (1979):

34 years after the first Star Trek film the genre is still hot. This one is light on special effects, but offers a great segue from the TV series to the big screen. It’s the first Star Trek iteration to feature the Klingons.

  • RIDDICK

Vin Diesel is full value here as the title character for the third time.
