  • 1. GI JOE: RETALIATION:

Based on both the comic book and the ‘80s animated TV series, we have a strong cast with a relatively weak story, but it matters not, as this is a mindless action flick, and there is certainly plenty of that! Bruce Willis, Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, and Channing Tatum find themselves, as GI Joes, just like the A-Team - outlawed by the American Government for a crime they didn’t commit … but with the American President replaced by an imposter, and the fate of the world at stake, they can’t let a little thing like being wanted stop them. A lot of stuff blows up, which is really all you need for a film like this. Rated 14A.

  • 2. ASSAULT ON WALL STREET:

Originally released under the title, “Bailout: the Age of Greed,” Prison Break’s Dominic Purcell stars as a family man, a stockbroker on Wall Street (played here by Vancouver) who has his own way of dealing with the market meltdown – hint, it involves a machine gun! Probably not the best way to solve money problems, but it’s a passable action/revenge film with several Canadians in the cast including Alberta’s Erin Karpluk (Being Erica), B.C.’s Lochlyn Monroe (Mr. Hockey), and Montreal’s Mike Dopud (Continuum). Rated 18A.

  • 3. BLACK ROCK:

If you updated “Deliverance” and added a trio of young women instead of men, this is what it would look like. Kate Bosworth and Lake Bell, strong utility-class performers were recruited here by the third of the trio, Katie Aselton who stars and directs, based on a script by her husband Mark Duplass (Brendan on “The Mindy Project), which he based on her original story idea. Three friends from their school days reunite as adults and head to an island off the coast of Maine (Aselton is a former “Miss Maine”) to talk about old times. They meet some hunters there, one of whom they know from high school … and that’s where the trouble starts. Graphic violence, nudity, and language. Rated 18A.

  • GI JOE: RETALIATION

Watch Channing Tatum’ enhanced role. as release day approached, he became a star based on Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street, and he was brought in to shoot more scenes to beef up his role.

BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK (1955):

Spencer Tracy is outstanding as the one-armed stranger who shows up in a small town … with a diabolical purpose. Robert Ryan also stars along with Lee Marvin.

  • THE WOLVERINE

Great if you like the XMen franchise … and/or Hugh Jackman

  • THE TO DO LIST

Teen themes with a teen cast (well, not really, they are all over 25 but playing teens).
