  • 1. A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD:

Bruce Willis is back as John McLane for the first time in five years in this franchise that began in 1990, he’s still a cop, but he’s on vacation in Russia where he has no jurisdiction. Vacation isn’t exactly right … he’s tracking down is good-for-nothing son (Jai Courtney) from whom he has been semi-estranged, to try to get the wayward lad back on track. Problem is, the son isn’t off-track … he’s an undercover CIA operative only pretending to be a slacker, and McLane finds himself in the heart of a major fire-fight right off the bat. Location filming adds to the credibility … you know what you’re getting, and it delivers. Rated 18A.

  • 2. WARM BODIES:

Billed as a Zom-Rom, this one is about a romance between a zombie and the girl he loves. It’s the standard post-apocalyptic world in which the zombie plague has shuffling gangs of the undead looking for anything with a beating heart, but “R” (Nicolas Hoult from “About a Boy”) is different … he seems to be warming up a little, and when he saves Julie from the wandering hoards, she wants to take him home to meet daddy … daddy is John Malkovich, and he is not amused. Great fun, original ideas, excellent performances. Rated 14A.

  • 3. IDENTITY THIEF:

Good cast, bad execution. Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly) is the thief of the title, Jason Bateman is the hapless victim whose business and family life is turned upside down when his identity is stolen, credit cards are maxed out, and his business life is basically over as well. The police won’t help (in one of the plot holes that really doesn’t make much sense) so it becomes a road movie as Bateman’s character takes the law into his own hands. Should have been better given the talent involved. Rated 14A.

  • WARM BODIES:

Pay attention to the names of each of the characters, and you’ll find that they parallel Romeo and Juliet … there’s even a balcony scene!

DIE HARD (1990):

It’s always good to revisit the first in this series … and it’s interesting to note that it always makes the list of the top five Christmas movies of all time!!

  • AFTER EARTH

Some good spfx here, but still seems a bit like a vanity project or home movie to showcase Jaden Smith.

  • NOW YOU SEE ME

    Brilliant whodunit/heist movie!
