The title says it all for this re-release.
1. PARENTAL GUIDANCE:
Artie and Diane are played by Billy Crystal and Bette Midler … they are the parents. Alice and Phil are played by Marisa Tomei and Tom Everett Scott. They are the adult children … who have kids of their own – Artie & Diane’s grandkids. The “Helicopter parents” have to go out of town for work purposes, the grandparents take over … and the generation gap becomes enormous in this comedy that has many funny moments. Traditional parenting versus “new-age” parenting elicits many laughs and may truths. Rated PG.
2. KILLING THEM SOFTLY:
Brad Pitt is a tough and ruthless enforcer hired by the mob to teach a lesson to three amateurs who rob the wrong poker game. The poker players are mob affiliates and no one should mess with the mob. Violent, dark, and profane, this isn’t your ordinary organized crime story, but rather is more of a characters study ... with shotguns. James Gandolfini (The Sopranos) and Richard Jenkins also star. Good if you’re okay with the violience and the language. Rated 18A.
3. JOHN DIES AT THE END:
The title doesn’t really give away a lot. This is a sci-fi oddity in which a street drug seems to send its users across time and through multiple dimensions ... or maybe that’s what’s really happening, because some people who come back are no longer human. Soon it’s clear that this is an invasion of sorts, and it falls to a pair of college drop-outs to try to save the world. That’s where the title comes into play. Rob Mays (90210) and Paul Giamatti stars. Rated 18A.
PARENTAL GUIDANCE:
Although they didn’t write the script, Babaloo Mandel and Lowell Ganz polished up the final version. That’s why it’s funny … they are the team who wrote such hits as Parenthood, City Slickers, and A League of Their Own.
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (1992):
Appropriate for baseball’s opening day, this flashback to the ‘40s and the development of women’s baseball, is a great showcase for Madonna, Geena Davis, and Rosie O’Donnell. Directed by Penny Marshall.
A GI JOE: RETALIATION
wayne Johnson and Channing Tatum take on the “authorities” when their GI Joe unit is framed for a crime it did not commit. Good action flick!
THE HOST
A terrific spooker from Stephenie Meyer of “Twilight” fame.
