  • 1. FORTRESS:

Without the B-17 Flying Fortress, the US could not have won the war in Europe, a long-standing quote from American sources who seem to forget that a lot of other allies were involved in that win, but never mind. This film is a largely based-on-fact direcet-to-DVD action tale of the war in the skies over Europe, focusing on the exploits of the young men who flew into danger every day … with more than 1/3 of them never returning. It’s a no-name cast, with CGI effects from the same company that did “Red Tails” and History Channels “Dogfights” series. I am a WWII buff, so I liked this a great deal! Rated 14A

  • 2. HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS:

A great cast in this based-on-fact depiction of one of the longest-running family feuds in history. Not a movie, but a TV mini-series that aired last month, it plays out like a very strong film. Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Powers Booth, Mare Winningham, and Tom Berenger are among the cast of thousands who play out the drama that began during the American Civil War, and lived on as a blood-feud for almost a century. There are some, of course, who say it’s still going on. Set a record for viewing numbers when it aired – top-rated cable TV mini-series of all time. Rated 14A.

  • 3. LOL:

If you need me to tell you that this is a social networking acronym for “laughing out loud,” you probably shouldn’t bother with this movie at all. A mother (Ashley Green) stumbles onto her daughters online postings that portray a much racier picture than Mom ever imagined. Daughter Lola (Miley Cyrus) doesn’t appreciate the intervention and acts out predictably, but outside the influence of her frustrated parent. Demi Moore also stars ... and when, oh when did Marlo Thomas start playing granny roles? Now I guess! Rated 14A.

  • HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS:

It’s not often that we see Kevin Costner on the small screen, unless it’s a DVD or download of a big-screen movie. He is exceptional in this tale!

DANCES WITH WOLVES (1990):

The summer of ’73 looking back a decade at a high school grad night … Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Harrison Ford … and after it was completed, Universal thought so little of the film that it sat on the shelf unreleased for six months. It became a runaway hit!

  • THE WATCH

A very raunchy comedy about an neighborhood watch group that encounters aliens.

  • STEP UP REVOLUTION

Dance fans will love this latest installment in the “Streets” series.
