  • THE MUPPETS

Fozzie, Kermit, Miss Piggy … they are all back, along with some live action actors too!

  • 1. CONAN THE BARBARIAN:

Jason Momoa takes on the role previously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1982 version of this story, but don’t think this is a remake.  It is very definitely a reimagining with a much smarter and less Neanderthal Conan and an origins story that will keep you fully engaged.  Conan’s village is slaughtered and his father and family are killed, making this a complete revenge tale as the young boy, orphaned and angered, grows up to take on those who are responsible.  There’s a good touch of the supernatural here too, as Conan takes on some very strange monsters.  Good movie! Rated 14A.

  • 2. SUPER 8:

J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek) directs while Steven Spielberg produces in a movie with a great story, and with a back-story that is almost as intriguing.  A group of very young teens are smitten with movie-making in the during the summer of 1969 (just as the young Abrams was) and sneak out of the house late at night to shoot a key scene with their father’s super 8 camera for their zombie movie.  It is here, at the deserted train station, that danger comes calling as a military train derails in spectacular fashion unleashing … something … something that was kept in Area 51, was being transported, and is now on the loose.  Terrific story, well-made. Rated 14A.

  • 3. SPYKIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD:

The Spy Kids, Carmen and Juni, in their fourth movie, have a new mom … she’s a retired secret agent, it’s supposed to be a secret, but when the diabolical Timekeeper, a very fitting villain, comes on the scene, everything changes.  Geared to a pre-teen audience, the kids are getting a little old for this, but it’s still good action and adventure for its specified demographic.  Jessica Alba and Antonio Banderas star along with Danny Trejo, a favorite of director/producer Robert Rodriquez. Rated PG.

  • 4. SUPER 8

Don’t shut down your DVD player or computer when the credits start to roll.  The movie-within-a-movie that they have been making is played out over the credits.  It’s good fun!

TAKERS:

Despite some serious plot holes, this is a pretty good thriller.  Will you see the ending coming?  Probably!

  • HAPPY FEET 2

Although not as strong as the  first movie, still great animated fun!

  • THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN, PART 1

I’m getting a little tired of Bella and her histrionics, but this time she has a lot to worry about … but it’s wanting because there is no conclusion until part 2.
