1. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER:
This is one of the best comic book “origins” movie that I have ever seen. Chris Evans (The Fantastic Four) stars here as Steve Rogers, a 98 pound weakling as World War II dawns, who wants to sign up and do his bit. The doctors turn him down – too small, too sickly … but he is recruited for a different project, and soon, heavily muscled, sporting his trademark shield, he is off to help save the world from the Nazis. Good special effects, good performances, and good fun all the way around. There are many cool references to previous movies, including an appearance by Howard Stark, who would become the father of Tony Stark (Iron Man). Rated PG.

2. THREE MUSKETEERS:
This is just your standard heads-up of you see this one on the video store shelf, or available for download. By some remarkable coincidence, this is the week chosen for its release, just days after the release of the new Three Musketeers movie. Don’t be fooled – although this DVD has specific audience, it has never been in theatres, and it has a contemporary setting, using the basic Musketeers story as the backdrop for an Asian-inspired martial arts extravaganza. Rated 14-A.

3. ATROCIOUS:
This European horror film, just in time for Halloween, has also had no theatrical release, and, just like the Three Musketeers with ninjas, takes some liberties with existing movies and tries to cash in. This is another of those only-the-tape-remains things, like Blair Witch, and like Paranormal Activity, where we are expected to believe that the events, in this case, taking place in a vacation home, actually happened, with the tape left behind to allow us to learn about the horrors that occurred. This time around it’s a brother and sister with their family on holiday … when terrible things begin to happen. Pretty thin, not well-made, but perhaps okay for a Halloween scream. Rated 14-A.

4. CAPTAIN AMERICA
Marvel Comics boss Stan Lee appears in a cameo in each of his films … and he’s here too, but you have to be very aware, or you’ll miss him. The good news … look at the closing credits, then you can go back to see the scene you missed.

TAKERS:
Despite some serious plot holes, this is a pretty good thriller. Will you see the ending coming? Probably!

PARANORMAL 3
The spookiness holds up extremely well after three films

THE THREE MUSKETEERS 3D
Spectacular sets and costumes, but a movie that really goes nowhere

JOHHNY ENGLISH REBORN
Rowan Atkinson is back as his lower-shelf James Bond character … strictly for his fans, and there are many. Quite funny in spots.
