1. SOURCE CODE:
I liked this high-tech film that combines a great conspiracy theory with just a hint of time travel. Jake Gyllenhaal is a decorated soldier who wakes up in a strange kind of capsule, and finds himself communicating with officials who want him to “do” something. Suddenly he’s on a train, in the body of another person, and within minutes, the train explodes, blowing him and everyone else to smithereens. Then it’s back in the capsule for a briefing, and once again, he’s back on the train … a little like “Groundhog Day” with terrorist bombs. Michelle Monaghan co-stars. Rated PG.

2. TRUST:
Didn’t get much distribution in theatres, but this Clive Owen thriller has a contemporary spin that could have had it pulled right from the headlines. After discovering that his daughter has been the victim of an on-line sexual predator, the dad takes off after him, looking for justice … using the same techniques the predator used. Good cast that includes Catharine Keener … and directed by “Friends” star David Schwimmer. Rated 14A.

3. UNDER THE MOUNTAIN:
This one is for tweens and early teens, an entertaining fantasy from New Zealand, and set in that country. A brother and sister who are able to speak to one another using telepathy, are chosen for a special mission, and soon find themselves investigating an old house that is inhabited by a race of zombie-like creatures. This won’t have a lot of appeal to adults or to later teens, but for its target audience it’s a good fit. Rated PG.

TAKERS:
Despite some serious plot holes, this is a pretty good thriller. Will you see the ending coming? Probably!
