1. THE RESIDENT:
A film that had very little theatre distribution stars Hilary Swank with an unlikely appearance by horror fixture Christopher Lee … and why not? This is the third film from Britain’s Hammer Films, which, in the 60s, was a chief purveyor of horror movies. Here, Swank is a doctor who goes through a marriage break-up, finds a perfect loft in Brooklyn at an unbelievable price, and quickly begins to feel that someone may be watching. And it’s true … she’s not alone. Rated 14A.

2. CASINO JACK:
Kevin Spacey is excellent as Jack Abramoff, real-life entrepreneur who quickly became a real-life … well, gangster, due to his business involvement with the mafia and other nefarious interests. Abramoff was a Washington, DC lobbyist who got caught up in bigger and bigger schemes that eventually led to his downfall. Barry Pepper plays his influence-peddling partner, Michael Scanlon. Rated 14A.

3. THE HAUNTING OF MARSTEN MANOR:
A horror-thriller that didn’t make it into theatres has a good cast with C. Thomas Howell (ET) and Brianne Davis (Prom Night) telling the story of a blind woman who inherits a haunted house with a story to tell … a story that she may not be ready to hear, as it is being related by the long-dead residents. Good for fans of the genre (and I am one of those! Rated 14A.

TAKERS:

Marvelous story of a depression-era circus based on the best-selling book. Robert Pattinson is excellent, as is Christoph Waltz.
