  • 1. THE NEXT THREE DAYS:

It starts terribly slowly as Russell Crowe, as a college prof, sees his wife arrested for a murder he is sure she did not commit.  What to do?  Well, break her out,k that’s what.  After a slow, slow start, this becomes a good prison break movie, but not the type you expect as Crowe’s character works to free his wife.  Is he guilty or innocent?  We don’t know … we find out, but we don’t know for much of the movie.  Elizabeth Banks and Liam Neeson co-star. Rated 14A.

  • 2. MORNING GLORY:

A delightful story that will appeal to anyone with a fascination for the electronic media.  Canada’s Rachel McAdams is a new producer on a bottom-rated TV station morning show, who pulls a coup and gets a veteran anchorman (Harrison Ford) to work the program.  He doesn’t want to be there, he partner (Diane Keaton) doesn’t want him there, and it looks like curtains for everyone … but of course, this is a rom-com, so you know all will work out in the end.  And it does.  Great fun! Rated PG.

  • 3. WALKING DEAD: SEASON ONE:

If you missed this superb zombie series that aired last spring on one of cable’s premium channels, here’s your chance to catch up.  A handful of survivors of a widespread zombie epidemic eke out an existence outside of Atlanta, Ga, trying to avoid those who would eat their flesh like so much KFC.  Good characters, scary zombies.  It plays like a movie, not a TV show, and it will be back for season II.  Nor rated.

  • 4. MORNING GLORY:

Predictable?  Yes.  Frivolous?  Yes.  But that’s the charm … and the ending is worth the price of admission.

TAKERS:

Despite some serious plot holes, this is a pretty good thriller.  Will you see the ending coming?  Probably!
