  • THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER

Natalie Portman has Oscar buzz as a ballerina with a mission

  • THE TOURIST

Johnny Depp and Angelina Joli in a spy thriller!

  • 1. INCEPTION:

Leo DiCaprio is in fine form here as an expert in industrial espionage … but he invades people’s minds to steal information while they sleep.  But now, he’s asked to do the opposite – go into the mind of a wealthy and influential individual to plant an idea in his subconscious so that he will act on the suggestion when awake.  You have to see this one twice to truly get it as DiCaprio and co-star Ellen Page carry out the ultimate virtual spy caper.  Exceptional film! Rated PG.

  • 2. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE:

Certainly better than the last Twilight film, New Moon, this one focuses on the rivalry between the vampires and the werewolves with Bella caught in the middle – or maybe she placed herself in the middle.  Jacob’s Tyler Lautner is more pumped and chiselled than ever before as the teenage boy/werewolf makes a compelling case as to why Bella should choose him and not Edward.  Special effects are better this time around, but Bella is still too … well, too affected, for my taste … but then, I’m not a fifteen year-old girl!   Rated PG.

  • 3. SHREK FOREVER AFTER:

Perfect timing for Christmas here, as the big green ogre takes a page out of the holiday movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life” by wishing that he had never been born.  Well, not quite, but he’s tricked into it, and soon he is witnessing the lives of his beloved Fiona, Donkey, and Puss-in-Boots without him and without his influence.  Too late he realizes his error.  Well, not too late – it is Shrek after and even though he lives in the land of Far Far Away, it has to end happily ever after. Rated PG.

  • 4. INCEPTION:

If you know the work of director Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight) you’ll get even more out of this movie … remember that he likes to tell stories in reverse!

MEMENTO (2000):

A pretty good companion piece to go with Inception.  Guy Pierce plays a man with no short-term memory … who may have committed a murder.  Starts at the end, works back to the beginning.

  • 127 HOURS

Exceptional true story of Aaron Ralston who was trapped while hiking when a rock fell on his arm … and he had to cut it off!  James Franco is amazing in the lead

  • FAIR GAME

Sean Penn is exceptional in the true story of Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts) who was the CIA operative outed by the Bush administration. Now opened wider – at most Cineplex theatres.
