An Asian-flavoured martial arts thriller that matches that genre with an old-style western. Korean actor Dong-Gun Jang stars along with Kate Bosworth, Jeffrey Rush, and Danny Huston.
1. KNIGHT & DAY:
The title doesn’t make much sense, and neither does the box office result, if you’re a studio executive. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz star in what is supposed to be a spy thriller with comedic overtones, that really didn’t work. Tanked at the box office, and plays a little better on DVD as Cruise and Diaz work through a script that doesn’t seem to know which end is up. If you like the stars, and just want to watch them … it’s okay. Rated PG.
2. THE SORCEROR’S APPRENTICE:
Nicholas Cage and Montreal’s Jay Baruchel star in another box office dog that is loosely based on the piece from Disney’s Fantasia. It’s a far better movie than the box office result, with Cage as an age-old sorcerer looking for his replacement. Alfred Molina plays the evil presence, the special effects are just fine, and I liked the story. Plays very well on DVD! Rated PG.
3. FANTASIA/FANTASIA 2000:
Speaking of Fantasia, here it is on Blu-Ray, digitally remastered, along with the update from 10 years ago. Still outstanding, with “Night on Bald Mountain” and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” as a great introduction to classical music … and Mickey Mouse. Outstanding surround sound – acquaint a new generation of kids with this wonderful production! Rated PG.

4. THE SORCEROR’S APPRENTICE:
Watch for car chase scene early on in which it looks like a car careens into the crowd … it really happened, and it wasn’t planned … two bystanders were hurt.
DAYS OF THUNDER (1990):
Yep, 20 years ago, and that makes this Tom Cruise-Nicole Kidman race car thriller a true classic. Back in the VHS days, this was the tape you put into a surround sound system to show just what great sound was all about!
