1. THE BACK UP PLAN:
J Lo and soon-to-be Hawaii Five-O star Alex O’Loughlin star in an uneven, stilted, contrived sitcom of a movie in which J Lo’s character wants to have a baby, doesn’t have a guy, goes for artificial insemination, and then, that very day, meets what appears to be the man of her dreams. He wasn’t expecting a ready-made family and she wasn’t expecting the pregnancy to take first time out. A box office flop. A barely rentable diversion on DVD. Rated PG.

2. CA$H:
Not a very good action-adventure-caper film, direct-to-DVD, but it has some redeeming qualities. The stars are Sean Bean and Chris Hemsworth, Bean a great villain/hero in many British movies … and Josh Blue plays a car salesman – Blue is the cerebral palsy afflicted stand up star from Last Comic Standing three years ago. The fun of this is watching it take place in England, which is clearly played here by the United States. Watch the cars and the roads. Rated 18A.

3. $5 A DAY:
Not a bad little film that you didn’t see in theatres. Sharon Stone, Christopher Walken, Dean Caine, and Amanda Peet in a tale of a terminally ill man being driven across country for an experimental cure … but short on cash, he and his entourage do increasingly bizarre things to come up with the money they need. A comedic road film with a dark side. Rated PG.

4. THE BACK UP PLAN:
Although not a great film, it’s interesting to see Tom Bosley (Howard Cunningham from Happy Days), much older now, and to speculate on how O’Loughlin will pull of the McGarrett role on Hawaii Five-O.

THELMA & LOUISE (1991):
Not only a great road movie, a great backstory … Brad Pitt is terrific as the drifter who gets a ride from the on-the-lam women … but he got the role after the struggling actor who really wanted it auditioned five times, but couldn’t make the grade – George Clooney!
