  • CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE

Talking cats against talking dogs … the kids will love it, gets old fast for adults
  • CHARLIE ST. CLOUD

Based on the best-selling novel, Zac Efron plays the title character, a young man dealing with his brother’s death … but he can still see him, still talk with him.

  • DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS

Steve Carrel and Paul Rudd star in this remake of the French film, “Dinner for Idiots.”

  • 1. CLASH OF THE TITANS:

Sam Worthington (Avatar) fronts this special effects-laden sword-and-sandal epic that was quite poor on the big screen in 3D, but which actually plays better on the small screen in 2D.  Liam Neeson is Zeus, Ralph Fiennes is Hades, and the Kraken is the real star.  A remake of the 1981 original, a struggle between men and the gods, and those men who would be gods.  Rated 14A.

  • 2. REPO MEN:

It’s the near future, and any organ in your body can be replaced with either the real thing, or a mechanical counterpart adding many years to your life.  But if you don’t pay … well, the repo men come and take it back.  If it happens to be a heart, or something equally important, too bad.  Jude Law and Forest Whitaker star in what I found to be a most satisfying sci-fi thriller, although for sure, a little grisly at times during the actual repossessions.  Rated 14A.

  • 3. THE WARLORDS:

Jet Li is true to his word – said he wouldn’t do any more martial arts movies – and here, he is steeped in historical drama and action.  The Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s is the setting, and battles both political and physical set the stage for this high-action story.  Li is General Pang, who survives a massacre by playing dead, and then joins a band of outlaws.  Interesting story told from an Asian perspective. Rated 14A.

  • 4. REPO MEN:

Leo DiCaprio was supposed to have the Jude Law role, but dropped out to make Inception.

REPO MAN  (1984)

Similar title, but no connection – Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton star in this quirky tale of guys who take back your car if you don’t pay … and sometimes they do worse!  It’s number 7 on Entertainment Weekly’s Top 50 Cult Films of all time.

  • SALT

Angelina Jolie does all her own stunt work in this terrific action-adventure tale about spies and counterspies

  • RAMONA AND BEEZUS

Cute adaptation of Beverly Cleary’s children’s books … strictly for pre-teens though.
