  • THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE

Nicolas Cage and Montreal’s Jay Baruchel in a special effects extravaganza loosely based on the Disney segment from Fantasia.
  • INCEPTION

Leo DiCaprio in a sci-fi thriller about a man who enters your dreams.

  • 1. THE BOUNTY HUNTER:

Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston star in this unlikely story of an ex-cop who is now a professional bounty hunter after his having been bounced of the force amid controversy, and his ex-wife, a newspaper reporter with a bit of a price on her head after failing to show up for a court date … so he’s off to track her down, they hate each other, and are soon embroiled in a murder plot and on the run … together.  Not a good film – Butler is not appealing, and Aniston does a walk-through.  Rated PG.

  • 2. CHLOE:

Always be careful whom you trust, and whom you do not. Julianne Moore suspects her husband (Liam Neeson) of infidelity, and she hires a call-girl (Amanda Seyfried) to tempt him so she can get the goods on him.  Director Atom Egoyan explores life at the edge of suspicion … not a feel-good movie, graphic at times, and … confusing for some of us … like me. Rated 18A.

  • 3. MAX MANUS: MAN OF WAR:

A Norwegian film based on fact about the exploits of Manus, a member of the so-called “Oslo Gang” who fought underground in Nazi-occupied Norway during World War II.  A great treatment in a non-Hollywood fashion. Rated 14A.

  • 4. MAX MANUS: MAN OF WAR:

I liked this unconventional Norwegian film, which is the most successful and most widely-viewed Norwegian film of all time.  Well-made, and a cast of thousands when it comes to portraying the German army.

THE GREAT ESCAPE  (1963)

Steve McQueen, Richard Dawson, James Garner, Charles Bronson, Richard Attenborough … an exceptional cast in this based-on-fact story of a daring break from a German POW camp Stalag Luft in 1944.  Contrary to popular belief, Steve McQueen did not do his own motorcycle stunt work because of insurance issues … but his is one of the pursuing German soldiers on two wheels, so he is literally chasing himself.

  • DESPICABLE ME

A marvelous animated 3D tale of a villainous mad scientist type (Steve Carrel) and three orphans who see him as father material.  Great for kids and for adults too!

  • PREDATORS

I loved this third in the Predator series – good story, good effects – Adrian Brody bulked up big for his role here.
