  • TOY STORY 3

Andy is off to college … who will play with the toys?
  • JONAH HEX

Josh Brolin as a scarred bounty hunter charged by the US military to stop a terrorist.  John Malkovich also stars.

  • 1. THE BOOK OF ELI:

Denzel Washington is Eli, a mystery man who roams a post-apocalyptic United States carrying a book … THE book actually – the one that will lead what is left of humanity, to some reason and some common sense in trying to essentially start civilization all over again … there isn’t much civil about the remnants – there are cannibals, and strongmen right out of the Old West.  And what’s the book?  Well, that’s the story, isn’t it? Rated 14A.

  • 2. WHEN IN ROME:

Kristin Bell and Josh Duhamel star in a romantic comedy that offers a kind of reverse play on the old Three Coins in a Fountain movie.  She plays Beth, a New Yorker unlucky at love, who scoops coins out of a fountain in Rome where she is visiting to attend a wedding … and learns that the magic here has every man who threw in such a coin, instantly in love with her … but that’s not true love – it’s magic.  How do you find Mr. Right?  Here real-life hubby Dax Shepherd plays one of the suitors. Rated PG.

  • 3. UNTHINKABLE:

Good cast in a smallish movie that got limited distribution – Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Sheen, and Carrie-Anne Moss in what plays like a couple of episodes of the TV series “24” … terrorist, nuclear bombs, interrogation, a race against time – you know the drill.  Rated 14A.

  • 4. THE BOOK OF ELI:

I’m a sucker for post-apocalyptic movies, always looking for the message.  There are some good ones here, and interesting to see that Denzel did all his own stunts and hand-to-hand combat.

THE KARATE KID (1983)

This original of last weekend’s remake release offers an outstanding performance by Pat Morita as the martial arts master who teaches his young protégé (Ralph Macchio) how to survive bullying. Morita was not considered because of his comedy work, but at the end, he was best for the role.

  • THE A-TEAM

I love it when a plan comes together!  Hannibal Smith and his men blow up a lot of stuff … great fun!

  • THE KARATE KID

A second-rate remake starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
