  • KICK ASS

A youthful cast decides that they can be costumed super heroes with no powers – just a lot of moxie.
  • DEATH AT A FUNERAL

Martin Lawrence & Chris Rock in a black comedy
  • GIRL WITH THE DRAGPON TATTOO

    Action-thriller from Sweden.

  • 1. PIRATE RADIO:

Those were the days – the ‘60s, the British Invasion, incredible music coming across the Atlantic with The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas pushing Rick Nelson and even Elvis aside on the charts.  Ship-born radio outlets such as Radio Caroline beamed the banned rock music into the UK and other European countries.  Phillip Seymour Hoffman is excellent as a DJ who hopes to play this music until he dies, and hopefully for a few days after that.  Great soundtrack!  Rated PG.

  • 2. TENDERNESS:

Russell Crowe and Laura Dern are “over hired” for this little film directed by Jon Poulson (Swimfan) that dwells on the relationship between a recently-paroled young man who, it turns out, brutally killed a family member, and a young woman who thinks he’s just a great young man.  Crowe is the cop who thinks he will kill again.  So-so at the end of the day! Rated 14A.

  • 3. ALICE:

The striking resemblance on the cover of this DVD, and of its presentation, to Johnny Depp’s Alice in Wonderland is strictly intentional, designed to trade on the success of the 3D movie.  This is not that film.  A made-in-BC American cable mini-series, this one has Matt Frewer (Max Headroom) and Kathy Bates in a futuristic, surreal version of the Alice legend.  Careful with this one!!  Rated PG.

  • 4. PIRATE RADIO:

The subtitle here, “The Boat that Rocked” is the theme -  based on actual events, but a fictitious story, this one will rock your socks off if you remember when!

A HARD DAY’S NIGHT (1964):

John, Paul, George, and Ringo in their first feature film which is a classic no matter how you look at it.  Watch closely at the fans in the audience at the television session … you’ll see a very young Phil Collins, wearing glasses.  Who knew?

  • DATE NIGHT

Steve Carell and Tina Fey in a highly contrived story of a couple who look to spice up their marriage with a night out in NYC … and they get much more than they expect when organized crime gets involved.
