STAR TREK
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are Kirk and Spock in this ambitious look at an “alternate time-line Star Trek.” Produced by JJ Abrams (Lost, Alians).

1. THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON:
Brad Pitt is the lead character here, born an old man, who becomes progressively younger throughout the decades. Cate Blanchett is his love interest, but you know it can’t end well as he becomes more youthful, she older. The parallels between this film and Forrest Gump are quite remarkable. It’s a must for Pitt fans. Rated PG.
2. LAST CHANCE HARVEY:
Things aren’t good for Harvey (Dustin Hoffman) as he travels to England for his daughter’s wedding, and learns, all on the same day, that he has been fired from his job, and that the daughter wants the new stepfather to give her away, not her Dad. A chance meeting in an airport bar changes everything for Harvey because Kate Walker who works at the airport has stopped in for a bite of lunch. He shares his bad news, she shares hers, and what begins is an awkward relationship between two emotionally-damaged people of more than a certain age. Loved this movie!! Rated PG.
3. STREISAND: THE CONCERT:
Last week Barbra Streisand was the subject of an hour-long special on CBS done in-concert with fabulous music and songs … the show was an hour long, but the DVD has two hours of that event. It’s a must for Streisand fans, as she rarely makes such appearances. Special guests – Il Divo. Rated G.

4. RICK’S PICK: LAST CHANCE HARVEY:
Button is a good movie, but hard to take seriously, while this one can be related to by most … nice job by Emma Thompson here, in a truly believable set of circumstances.

FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL (1996):
My favorite wedding movie … had a budget so small that the cast had to wear their own wedding clothes – and became the highest-grossing movie in British film history. |
