for September 19
  • Ghost Town

Ricky Gervais and Greg Kinnear about a man who dies, comes back, but now sees ghosts
  • Lakeview Terrace

Samuel L. Jackson is a neighbor who terrorizes the new couple next door
  • My Best Friends Girl

Jason Biggs and Kate Hudson in a romantic comedy
  • Igor

    Animated spoof on horror films.
  • 1 . 88 MINUTES:

Al Pacino is a forensic expert and university lecturer who is taunted by a serial killer presently in custody, who seems to be able to reach out beyond the bars to commit a murder – that of Pacino’s own character. Set in Seattle, shot in Vancouver, this film has more bad continuity than most, (although the entire film takes place over 88 minutes, Pacino’s hair changes length from scene to scene), it’s a decent enough thriller. Leelee Sobieski co-stars. Rated 14A.

  • 2. THE LOVE GURU:

Whatever Mike Myers once had in his Austin Powers days he has completely lost with this film. An American, raised in India, returns as a self-help guru, but all we really get are bathroom jokes and genital humour that doesn’t play well at any level. Its $62 million budget has thus far returned only half that amount, and that’s being generous. Rated 18A.

  • 3. MADE OF HONOR:

Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) is best friend to Michelle Monaghan’s character and realizes too late that he loves her. She is engaged and marrying into a Scottish nobleman’s family in the UK … he is asked to be one of her bridesmaids – he agrees, but he wants her back. It’s a better-than-average romantic comedy. Rated 14A.

  • RICK’S PICK: 88 MINUTES:

Despite plot holes large enough to float a BC Ferry through, Al Pacino is always watchable – and he has more hair here than anyone should ever sport!

My Best Friends Wedding (1997):
Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney star in what is the opposite-sex-version of Made of Honor. Interesting comparison, because they are almost the same film.
  • The Women

No men in the cast at all … pretty much the same in the audience
  • Burn After Reading

Quirky, violent, and very funny Coen Brothers film in which Brad Pitt is exceptional
  • Righteous Kill

Tough NYPD cops are outstanding in the person of Pacino and De Niro. Great cop film!
