for June 6
  • Kung Fu Panda

Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, and Jackie Chan contribute voices to a delightful animated tale of ancient China.
  • You Don't Mess With the Zohan

Adam Sandler is a former Israeli special forces operative who takes on a new life in New York City … as a hairdresser.
  • 1 .SEMI-PRO:

Will Ferrell is far too old to be taking on roles such as this, but as long as people keep paying, he’ll keep doing it. In this half-baked comedy, also starring Woody Harrelson, Ferrell is the owner of a small-market basketball team, the league of which is being merged with the bigtime NBA … but not every team gets in. Not Ferrell’s. Unless they suddenly have a winning season. Predictable, not very funny, and mildly offensive. Rated 18A.

  • 2. THE EYE:

Jessica Alba is fine as a blind woman who gets a transplant that allows her to see … but what she begins to see are shadowy beings that appear to be up to no good. Who owned the eye previously? And what horrible things were done? Opened up to this terrible world, the chase is soon on. A better than average horror-chiller with a good payoff. Rated 14A.

  • 3. MEET THE SPARTANS:

A send-up of the movie 300 in which pretty much everyone from Brittany Spears to George Bush is lampooned. Some of the scenes are in very bad taste and go on too long, while others are pretty darned funny. Geared mostly to younger audiences, you have to really know your pop culture to get the best out of this film. Rated 14A.

  • Rick´s Pick: The Eye:

Jessica Alba’s character here is a concert violinist – she took lessons for six months in order to look convincing in the role. A remake of a Hong Kong Thriller of the same title.

WAIT UNTIL DARK (1967):
This is the way a home invasion movie is supposed to look … Audrey Hepburn, blind, alone at home, and victimized by druggies … but helpless? Not even close!
  • Sex and the City

Yes, it’s all about the fashions, and the lives of Carrie, Miranda, et al … but it’s hard not to like this story whether you are a big fan or seeing it for the first time.
  • The Strangers

A violent, mean, and disturbing film about a home invasion that doesn’t turn out well … a pointless movie, hard to recommend.
