  • 1 .JUNO:

If you didn’t get a chance to see this made-in-the-Lower Mainland Oscar-nominated film when it was so difficult to find in theatres, well, here you go. Ellen Page from Halifax stars as a girl 16 and pregnant who chooses to go through with the pregnancy and give the baby up for adoption. The dialogue is quick and witty, and the story is satisfying at every turn. Still think Page deserved an Oscar, but that’s another story. Rated 14A.

  • 2. ALIEN VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM:

Two of the best alien creatures ever constructed for the big screen go head-to-head again in an action-fest of sci-fi horror. I like this kind of stuff, so I liked this movie – it was filmed in and around Vancouver but what really makes it work are the special effects … and I’m a big Predator fan – thought he got a bum deal in the first movie. You may want to check out the previous film first because this one picks up exactly where it left off. Rated 18A.

  • 3. IN THE NAME OF THE KING: A DUNGEON SIEGE TALE::

Great cast, terrible movie. Jason Statham, Ray Liotta, Claire Forlani, Ron Perelman, all in a sword-and-sorcery flick that just doesn’t work. The plot is silly, the characters are unbelievable, and the premise doesn’t work. Ray Liotta as a court magician looks like he’s still auditioning for Goodfellas. Give this one a pass unless you really, really like the actors. Rated PG.

  • Rick´s Pick: Juno:

“I’m already pregnant … what other shenanigans can I get into?” Best movie line of the year!

PROM NIGHT (1980):
“If you’re not back by midnight … you won’t be coming home.” Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Neilsen star in the film that really got the teen-slasher thing going.
