1 . INTO THE WILD:
This one was very hard to find when it was released to theatres, so the DVD will be well-received. Based on John Krakauer’s best-selling book, this is the true story of Chris McCandless who, after being a star athlete in college, left to live “on the road” … no money, no car, just shoe leather. The film follows his adventures across America, ending in Alaska with just himself and the wild. A great film! Hal Holbrook co-stars. Rated14A.

2. MR. MAGORIUM’S WONDER EMPORIUM:
Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman are a waste of time and energy in this kid-oriented film about a magical magic store in which everything is magically magical. Even kids won’t sit still too long for what is a premise that gets old in 10 minutes. Mr. Magorium is looking to pass the story along to the next generation. Okay. Rated G.

3. AWAKE:
Filmed in New York City, this thriller didn’t get good reviews, yet I thought it was a fine film – the premise alone will scare the heck out of you – Hayden Christianson’s character goes in for surgery, the anaesthetist and surgeon think he’s out – but he can hear and feel every single thing … and they are up to no good! Jessica Alba co-stars. Rated 14A.

Rick´s Pick: Into the Wild:
Sean Penn directed this film … and its star, Emile Hirsch did not use a stunt double anywhere, including being swept away in Arctic rapids, and confrontina a mother bear and her cubs. Hirsch lost 40 pounds in the course of the film.

COMA (1978):
Robin Cook wrote the book, Michael Crichton wrote the screenplay and directed. The issue of bad things going on in hospitals isn’t new. Michael Douglas stars, and this movie marks Ed Harris’s film debut, in a story of patients who are dying – when they are perfectly healthy. Diabolical! |

The Other Boleyn Girl
Outstanding historical costume drama around Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn … get a history lesson first though!
-
Penelope
A dud movie about a girl (Christina Ricci) with a pig nose
-
Semi Pro
Will Farrell in another sophomoric role – but you either like him or hate him … I’m in the latter camp.
