for November 23
  • Hitman

Mob violence just the way you like it.
  • August Rush

A touching search for a boy´s parents with Robin Williams at the heart of it.
  • Enchanted

    A Disney reverse–cartoon.
  • The Mist

A Stephen King horror film – title says it all.
  • 1. Live Free or Die Hard

Bruce Willis is back as John McLane, an LA cop who is a little older, a little more cynical, and a little tougher than previous incarnations. This time he takes on the internet... organized crime is using it to effectively shut down the United States. Some great stunt work here, much of which Willis did himself... non–stop action which will make thrill–movie fans more than happy. Rated 14A, but many stores are carrying the unrated version. Also available on Blu–Ray DVD.

  • 2. Hairspray

Nikki Blonsky – not a big star name – she was picked out of an open casting call and is just super in this musical version of an original from 1988 that starred Ricky Lake as the overweight teen who wants to dance on a television bandstand show. The music here is infectious, great performances by Queen Latifah and Christopher Walken, and a story that takes the edge off the race wars of the 60s. Rated PG. Also available on Blu-Ray HD.

  • 3. Rescue Dawn

This one didn´t stay long in theatres, which was a shame – Christian Bale is superb as Dieter Dengler, the real–life US pilot shot down over Vietnam in the early days of that conflict, and placed in a POW camp from which there is no escape... or is there? Great performance from Steve Zahn as another prisoner, and very realistic setting and backdrop. Rated 14A.

  • Rick´s Pick: Rescue Dawn

Bale lost 56 pounds during the course of the production to more accurately depict the conditions under which he was imprisoned.

Die Hard (1988)
Almost 20 years ago Det. John McClane found a way to hurt others who hurt him... in this case it´s "the Germans"... in the German version of this film, it´s "the Europeans" who are the bad guys.
  • Beowulf

Angelina Jolie is a demon, mother of a monster, in this epic 3D film based on an Anglo Saxon legend. Violent, odd, but somehow very appealing.
  • Love In the Time of Cholera

Based on the novel, a tale of the search for love... and lust... across four generations in the 19th and 20th centuries... not my cup of tea.
  • Mr. Magorium´s Wonder Emporium

Dustin Hoffman is silly as the proprietor of a store where the toys come to life... fine for kids.
